When to Consider a Sleep Coach for Your Child: Recognizing the Signs

Sleep is crucial for everyone, especially for children as it directly affects their physical and mental development. However, establishing a consistent sleep pattern for some children can be a challenging task for many parents. This is where a sleep coach can be a game-changer. If you’re wondering whether it’s time to seek professional help, here are some key symptoms to watch for that might indicate the need for a sleep coach:

1. Frequent Night Wakings

If your child wakes up numerous times during the night and struggles to fall back asleep, it could disrupt not only their sleep but also yours. A sleep coach can help identify the causes of these awakenings and work with you to develop strategies to help your child sleep more soundly.

2. Difficulty Falling Asleep

Does it take your child an unusually long time to fall asleep? If bedtime feels more like a battle, involving hours of effort, it might be time to consult with a sleep coach who can provide techniques and routines that make bedtime smoother and more predictable.

3. Irregular Sleep Schedules

Consistency is key in child sleep patterns. If your child’s sleep schedule is irregular or they resist a set bedtime, a sleep coach can help establish a routine that works with your child’s natural rhythms, benefiting their overall health and behavior.

4. Early Rising

If your child consistently wakes up too early and isn’t getting the recommended amount of sleep for their age, it could affect their mood and growth. A sleep coach can offer solutions to adjust and extend your child’s sleep times.

5. Reliance on Specific Conditions to Sleep

Some children become heavily reliant on certain conditions to fall asleep—such as needing a parent present, extensive rocking, or feeding. A sleep coach can help transition your child towards more independent sleeping habits.

6. Sleep Regression

If your child was previously sleeping well but has suddenly started facing sleep difficulties, this could be a sign of sleep regression. Sleep coaches can help navigate these phases, which are often linked to developmental milestones or changes in the child’s environment.

7. Behavioral Issues Related to Lack of Sleep

Insufficient sleep can lead to irritability, hyperactivity, and concentration problems in children. If your child’s lack of sleep starts impacting their daily life and behavior, it might be beneficial to consult with a sleep coach.

Conclusion

Recognizing these symptoms early and consulting with a sleep coach can make a significant difference in your child's sleep habits and overall well-being. Sleep coaches like myself specialize in understanding and addressing the unique sleep challenges faced by children. With the right support and strategies, your child can achieve restful sleep, benefiting the entire family’s quality of life.

Who are we?

Hello, I'm Chris Hinkley. For over 25 years, my passion for nurturing a family's well-being has transformed my career into a heartfelt calling. My journey began over four decades ago as an LVN nurse, where I first tapped into my profound passion for child and family care. This passion steered me toward specializing in in-home pediatric care and later evolving into a certified postpartum doula. My ongoing commitment to continual learning has also led me to become a newborn care specialist and a certified instructor for the esteemed "Gentle Ventures" NCS training program.

In my overnight doula practice, "After The Birth," I have developed a gentle stretching method of sleep training that effectively teaches infants to sleep through the night over several weeks. This method was initially a standard part of my services. However, numerous calls from weary parents desperate for rest prompted me to explore various rapid sleep training techniques. Through extensive research and application, I've identified several key principles that consistently deliver success. This allows me to get your child sleeping through the night in as little as 72 hours! These principles are the foundation of my approach, which I carefully adapt to meet the unique needs of each family.

I work intimately with parents, customizing strategies to align with your family's dynamics. By incorporating these techniques into your child's routine, we ensure you are deeply involved and empowered throughout the process. This collaborative method has helped hundreds of families enjoy peaceful, restful nights. The in-person training not only builds your confidence but also equips you with the tools necessary to maintain consistent sleep patterns for your children.

My dedication to continuous education is crucial in providing the highest quality care. I strive to keep abreast of the latest and most effective strategies, ensuring the best outcomes for the families I serve. This commitment has included learning from some of the field's most respected experts, like Natalie Nevares and Devon Clement of Mommywise, renowned as premier sleep trainers in New York. Staying at the forefront of sleep training innovations allows me to offer the most advanced and tailored solutions directly to your home.

About eight years ago, Charity Espinosa, an exceptional woman and my most trusted NCS student, became an integral part of my life. We share a deep passion for our work, and over the years, not only have we collaborated on numerous jobs, but she has also become one of my best friends. With her knowledge, passion, and charming Southern grace, Charity quickly rose to be one of my most sought-after doulas and sleep trainers.

Now residing outside Atlanta, GA, with her husband, while I split my time between Las Vegas and Long Beach, Charity and I are thrilled to launch our latest endeavor, Coast 2 Coast Sleep Training. Our new company is committed to delivering superior, lasting sleep training techniques directly to your doorstep, nationwide. - Observation in the Child’s Natural Sleep Environment: Coaches can make specific recommendations to optimize the sleeping environment, such as adjusting lighting, noise levels, or room layout.

- Enhanced Commitment and Support: The physical presence of a sleep coach not only boosts motivation but also enhances adherence to the sleep training program, leading to more consistent and successful outcomes.

- Emotional Support and Reassurance: In-home coaches provide immediate emotional support, helping parents handle the stress and challenges of sleep training with greater ease and effectiveness.

- Long-term Success and Follow-up: In-home coaching includes follow-up support to adjust sleep strategies as the child grows, ensuring long-term success.

- Bonus of Tailoring Naps: Additionally, in-home sleep coaches can simultaneously tailor daytime nap schedules to align with nighttime sleep training, creating a comprehensive routine that supports overall sleep health.

Where to begin? I have never been so impressed with the dedication and excellence provided by Chris! Chris was my doula for my 3 month old son; and her work was so good I had her back to do sleep training when my son was close to 5 months old. I never imagined that my son would be sleeping through the night in just 3 days...but it's true! Chris was so organized and her method was so on point that my son went from sleeping in 3 hour increments to now sleeping for 11 hours! All of this in just three days! Chris was extremely gentle and kind with my baby and was instrumental in teaching me how to manage deviations from the normal routine. She made herself readily available for any questions that I had. I would highly recommend After the Birth and am 100% confident that you will be incredibly happy with the service they provide.

I was a desperate first time mom looking for help from sleepless nights. We reached out to Chris and Charity for some advice and they were so open to giving us even immediate tips to help with out with the problems we were having. I called on a Friday and they booked us for sleep training by Monday and we are so grateful that we did this! Our 4 month old baby was being fed at all hours of the night and in 3 days she was sleeping through the night without a bottle! Thank you so much ladies for your quick response time and scheduling to help this sleep deprived mama. We will forever be grateful for a great sleeping habit for our baby and a sleep filled night for the adults.

Chris is the absolute best at what she does! We hired her to come and sleep train our daughter at 9 months after we tried and failed 3 times. Not only did she sleep train her in 3 nights, she also made us feel so comfortable with the process. Having her at our house felt like having family over. She was so kind, encouraging and supportive. After our first experience with Chris we knew we would recommend her and hire her again. fast forward a few years and we had our son! We contacted Chris right away and she was able to travel out to us to help us again!. Just like before, she was able to help us get our son good sleep habits and eliminate the sleep crutches he had and after 3 nights we had a successful sleeper! She has been the best support even after with answering questions and guidance. There is something very challenging about sleep training your babies but Chris makes it do-able and it is truly like having a friend there to support you! She is so great with the kids and honestly a pleasure to have around! I would HIGHLY recommend her and her team and if I somehow end up having a 3rd baby, she will be my first phone call
